Academic Enrichment &
Employment Training Program

Academics

One of the main goals of the AEETP program is to not only insure that each student graduates from high school, but to broaden and strengthen their academic abilities in a variety of subjects including math, science, writing and literature, and information technology.

Over the years, the program has been very successful in achieving that goal. Of the 65 students who have completed the program, 55 enrolled after graduation in some form of post-secondary education. Thirty three have attended a Penn State University campus.

We attribute the success of the program to several characteristics of the AEETP learning environment.

  • The environment is safe and supportive. All classes are held on the campus of Penn State Lehigh Valley. Counselors, teachers, and program administrators work closely with each student to solve any problems that may affect academic performance.
  • Small classes allow for more individualized instruction.
  • Hands-on activities and field trips reinforce learning.
  • Technology is incorporated into all areas of study, using state-of-the-art technology resources at Penn State Lehigh Valley.
  • Classes are taught by local area high school teachers. Some work as a team, drawing on their areas of strength within a common content focus.
  • During the school year, Penn State students serve as tutors, helping with homework problems.
