GO-60 Program

"Why should society feel responsible for only the education of the children, and not for the education of all adults of every age?" - Erich Fromm

Broaden your horizons. Take a stroll through history. Share your thoughts and experiences with other students. Now is the time to focus on yourself, to perhaps fulfill dreams put on hold while raising children or devoting life to a career. The GO-60 program at Penn State Lehigh Valley provides tuition-free enrollment in undergraduate level credit courses for those who are 60 years of age or older. All GO-60 students are required to pay the current technology fee and the student activity fee. The program is in effect only when classroom space is available.

"Old age is when you know all the answers, but nobody asks you the questions."
- M. M. Coady

GO-60 participants can take a maximum of 6 credits per semester. Participants are also permitted to audit a course for no grade. GO-60 students may apply for admission as a degree candidate under the policies and procedures of the University.

To qualify for admission in the GO-60 program, applicants must be Pennsylvania residents, former Penn State students, or former Penn State employees. In addition the applicant must be at least 60 years of age at the time of enrollment and be retired or employed less than half-time. Students must meet any course prerequisites and follow established rules, regulations and procedures applicable to all students.

"A professor is one who talks in someone else's sleep." - W.H.Auden

Project LifeLine

Project LifeLine is a non-credit computer learning program for adults over 60. Priority is given to those who live alone and have ongoing health issues. For many older adults, the Internet provides a lifeline connecting them with family, friends, medical information, and other important aspects of life. Project LifeLine is designed to help seniors cross the digital divide and successfully use computers and Internet technologies.

To encourage at-home exploration and learning, participants who don't own a computer borrow an Internet-connected desktop computer for the duration of the program. In class, participants learn a wide variety of technology skills, including how to find and evaluate online medical information.

Project LifeLine classes are free of charge and are taught during the summer months by volunteer faculty and staff members with an expertise in computers and Internet technologies.

For more information, contact Judy Sandt, 610-285-5028 or jsandt@psu.edu.
