2013 Summer
Youth Camps

This camp will begin with a mystery! During the entire two-week session, we will attempt to solve this "who-dunnit". In addition, each day of Detective Diaries will begin by examining a puzzling artifact or by viewing an intriguing photograph and writing about it in our notebooks. We will continue to be sleuths by reading mini-mysteries. We'll also look at the different elements of the mystery genre and incorporate these elements into our own pieces of detective fiction during computer lab time. We'll be certain to find time each day to enjoy a snack, and we will try, when possible, to go outside and see what mysteries we can find in the great outdoors.

This camp is for students entering grades 4-6.

Instructor: Michele Fowkes

Ms. Fowkes currently teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade reading and language arts at Upper Perkiomen Middle School. She has been teaching for 13 years and became a National Writing Project Fellow in 2007. She and her husband are Penn State alumni, and they are the proud parents of a two-year-old son who loves to "cook" in his play kitchen. Ms. Fowkes loves to travel internationally and to record her adventures in a notebook. She also enjoys cardio-kickboxing and reading in all genres, including mysteries.

All camps will be held at the Penn State Lehigh Valley campus in Center Valley, PA.
