Fogelsville:

Mrs. Bonnie Bleiler... Author Adventures

Mrs. Bleiler is a Penn State graduate who taught third grade in the Parkland School District. She is the mother of three homeschooled children and she has been actively involved as a homeschool evaluator and educator for many years. She very much enjoys teaching writing to homeschooled students in a local enrichment program. Since completing Summer Institute in 2007, she has served as coordinator for the Homeschool Initiatives Committee of LVWP. She lives on a dairy farm in Lehigh County.  Her interests include reading, fitness, teaching, and keeping up with her family.

Ms. Karen Rodgers... Creative Composers

Ms. Rodgers has taught English/Language Arts for the past 16 years to students from middle school through college in Virginia, New York and Pennsylvania.    More than most anything, she loves to read and talk about books. Her dream job would involve driving a big bus filled with books and delivering them to people while chatting about favorites.  When she isn’t teaching, she loves to travel.   She has a lot of fun writing about her adventures and taking pictures of interesting people and places. Gardening, hiking and biking with her three children and husband help keep her happy when she isn’t reading or writing.

Mr. Dave Reagan... Creative Composers II

Mr. Reagan teaches sixth grade Language Arts at Wind Gap Middle School in Pen Argyl. He has taught previous Summer Youth Writing Camps at Penn State Fogelsville, Southern Lehigh, and Wind Gap Middle School. His favorite books to teach and share with students are Coraline, Number the Stars, and A Christmas Carol. In his free time he enjoys reading and biking.

Mr. George VanDoren... Wanna-Be Writers

Mr. VanDoren is a teacher consultant for the Lehigh Valley Writing Project, an adjunct professor at Moravian College, and volunteer facilitator of the WDIY Youth Media Program. He has taught middle school and high school English for many years, mainly in the Bethlehem Area School District and served as BASD Coordinator for English Language Arts. He became an LVWP fellow in 2008 and loves sharing his passion for writing with students and teachers. He enjoys reading, exercising, playing trumpet in several musical groups, and rooting for the Iron Pigs.

Mrs. Candace Shoemaker... College Bound

Mrs. Shoemaker has always been a fan of the arts.  As a student in middle and high school, she worked on newspapers, wrote her own stories, acted in plays, and painted. Mrs. Shoemaker has an undergraduate degree from VCU in Richmond, VA, and a Master’s from Kutztown University. Currently, Mrs. Shoemaker is a teacher of the gifted at Southern Lehigh Middle School. Proud to be a LVWP Fellow, she encourages all her friends and colleagues to share in this dynamic experience.

Ms. Mary Newbegin... Reader's Theatre

Mrs. Newbegin, a Penn State graduate has a Master’s Degree in English as a Second Language. Originally a middle school language arts and foreign language teacher, she has also taught at the elementary level. Currently, Mrs. Newbegin teaches writing to adult students. Always a passionate writer, Mrs. Newbegin became a NWP Fellow in 2007, and serves on the Homeschool Initiatives Committee of the LVWP.  Her interests include reading, gardening, the arts and spending time with her husband and children.

Ms. Diane Devivo… Science Writers

Mrs. Devivo teaches chemistry at Warren Hills Regional High School in Washington, N.J. She likes to mix writing with hands-on science activities to make science fun and interesting. She earned her undergraduate degree from DeSales University. Thanks to her National Writing Project fellowship, she knows how to cook up some scientific writing in several genres!

Mr. Kevin Horn... Digital Storytelling

Kevin Horn has been teaching English and Communications & Media for eleven years, most of them at Warren Hills High School in Washington, NJ. Last year he was chosen as a recipient of the New Jersey Governor's Teacher Recognition award. He became a Fellow of the National Writing Project last summer and is a member of the Penn State Lehigh Valley Writing Project Tech Team. Kevin is currently pursuing his Master's degree in curriculum development at Moravian College, and will be finishing up by writing a humongous and frightfully long thesis for that this coming year. He is married and has two wonderful boys, ages six and nine, who are always telling stories of their own.

Bethlehem:

Ms. Jodi Wieand... Author Adventures

Mrs. Wieand has been an English and ESL teacher for the past 9 years.  Currently, she is an elementary teacher in the Allentown School District.  She received her undergraduate education at Cedar Crest College and her Master's from University of Turabo.  As a LVWP Fellow, she enjoys sharing her love of writing with students of all ages.  Outside of teaching, Mrs. Wieand loves gardening and spending time outdoors.

Ms. Holly Walker... Creative Composers

Miss Holly Walker teaches seventh grade language arts at Southern Lehigh Middle School, where she is also the Tales from the Trails newspaper advisor.  This upcoming year will be her fourth year teaching in this district.  Miss Walker loves writing and reading above most other activities, but sometimes you can find her relaxing and watching a movie or spending time with friends and family.  She also enjoys getting out and traveling about to see new sights. 

Mrs. Michele Fowkes... Reader's Theatre

Mrs. Fowkes has been teaching English for eight years. She has been teaching 8th Grade English at Upper Perkiomen Middle School for the last four of those years. She has also earned her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and gained certification as a Reading Specialist (K-12). She became a LVWP fellow in the summer of 2007 and enjoys sharing her love for writing with students. She also enjoys reading, exercising, traveling with her husband, and spending time with family and friends.

Mrs. Donna Bragg... Digital Storytelling

Mrs. Bragg teaches Family and Consumer Science at Dieruff High School in the Allentown School District. Many of her classes (Nutrition, Parenting and Personal Sewing) use a variety of new technologies. She has been the Tech Liaison for the Lehigh Valley Writing Project (LVWP) for four years.   She is also a technology instructor for other teachers for the LVWP and in her district.

Southern Lehigh:

Mrs. Donna Gaugler and Mrs. Erika Filbert... Drama Writers

Mrs. Gaugler currently teaches 6th grade Language Arts in the Southern Lehigh School District. She's been a Lehigh Valley Writing Project Fellow since 2004, but developed a passion for writing after being inspired by her own fourth grade teacher. Her favorite children's book is "Charlotte's Web" by E. B. White. She enjoys reading, writing, shopping, and spending time with her family and two chocolate labs.

Mrs. Filbert began teaching in the Southern Lehigh School District in 1996. She is the Reading Specialist in the Middle School. Although her focus in school is on reading, she was hooked by the power of writing after completing the Summer Institute and becoming a Fellow in 2000. She's been a teacher consultant with the LVWP for the past three years, coaching local teachers in building writer's workshop into their classroom routine. Her interests include reading, writing, shopping, scrapbooking, and spending time with her husband and two children.
