Program Overview
The Lehigh Valley Writing Project (LVWP) is a National Writing Project program committed to offering professional development that supports and enhances the literacy lives of all stakeholders in our learning communities. To that end, we offer the following:
For
Program Administrators:
• Workshops linked to State Assessment and Curriculum needs
designed to create, strengthen, and align district curriculum
as well as target areas of specific need
• Consultations for development, collection, and management
of program benchmarks to align programs K-12
For
Professional Teaching Staff:
• Needs assessments for program design specific to school culture
• In-house staff development presented by Teacher Consultants
who share current strategies and student samples from their own classrooms
• Grade- and subject-specific training for areas of greatest concern
(ESL strategies, Math writing, Science literacy, Reading initiatives,
etc.)
• Follow up literacy coaching support and classroom visitation
to deepen impact of staff training
• New teacher induction sessions
designed to introduce new faculty to district literacy initiative
For
Individual Teachers:
• Summer Invitational Writing Institute
(optional link to ESL
Master's Program)
• Pre-Institute Coursework
• Advanced-Institutes in areas of interest to our Fellows Base
• Attendance and Presentation Opportunities at State and National
Conferences
• Literacy Retreats and "Best
Practices" for professional development and ACT 48 credit
• Teachers-as-Writers Groups
and Writing Marathons
• Staff development opportunities for Fellows as teacher consultants
in their own schools and neighboring districts
• Leadership roles as coordinators of programming within LVWP
structure
• Research and grant opportunities
For
Students in our Schools:
• Summer Youth Reading and Writing
Camps
• Outreach opportunities such as Youth
Connections programs designed to provide K-12 academic enrichment
in areas such as technology, career awareness, character education,
and more
For
Families:
• Family literacy sessions
at satellite locations in areas such as Computer Technology, “real
world” writing and reading survival skills, etc.
• Outreach programs specifically for ELL families
to invite connection to school environment as well as enhance their
own adult literacy
For
Life-long Learners:
• Senior Academies for introducing and strengthening contemporary
literacies such as computer skills, memoir writing, etc.
