LVWP Listserv The LVWP maintains a listserv for Lehigh Valley Writing Fellows. This un-moderated list is for the announcement of events of interest to writing fellows. To be added to the list or update your address contact Judy Sandt at JSandt@psu.edu.

LVWP Summer Invitational Institute Resources

POWER Library (Pennsylvania Online World of Electronic Resources) This resource can be accessed at most public schools and on the internet using an active public library card from most libraries in Pennsylvania. A wealth of online subscriptions services available at no charge. Many are of a literary nature. A list of Participating libraries is available on line.

Digital Story Telling The merger of traditional writing with new technology has created exciting avenues for writers to express themselves. The following sites have media resources particularly useful to this genre.

  • Center for Digital Storytelling An organization rooted in the art of storytelling. Helping people use the tools of digital media to craft, record, share, and value the stories of individuals and communities.
  • Digital Storytelling A resource for teacher's from the Western Mass Writing Project.
  • Flickr An online repository of amateur photography much of which is available for free use. A good place to share your own pictures with others.
  • Magnatune Music purchased from Magnatune requires no license for non-commercial use including digital story telling, podcasts and video blogs.
  • Picasa Web Albums Googles online photo sharing site. A large collection of amateur photography mostly available for free use. Free easy to use Picasa software makes this a good way to share your own pictures.
  • Pics4learning A copyright friendly source for images for use in education.
  • Podsafe Music Network A source for music that can legally be used in an internet podcast.

  • AIMS DigitalCurriculum Streaming Video A Web-based video streaming and image library service. IU #20 subscribes for member schools and districts.
  • Crayola Creative classroom activities for all grades and disciplines.
  • DiscoverySchool.com Enriching and exciting tools, content and games for grades K-12.
  • eLearning Colonial Intermediate Unit 20s on line guide to multimedia teaching resources.
  • EduChoices 50 of the Best Websites for Writers.
  • Bud Hunt’s site on blogging and wikis.
  • International Children's Digital Library (ICDL) A digital library of children's books from all over the world.
  • Jan Brett Pages of free activities, coloring pages, and projects for children grades K-6.
  • MarcoPolo: Internet Content for the Classroom A consortium of premier education organizations dedicated to providing quality Internet content and professional development to teachers and students.
  • MES-English.com This site contains free ESL resources / EFL resources for teachers of young learners.
  • Net Trekker Source for differentiated instructions for teachers and students to use from school and home. Free trail available. IU #20 & #21 subscribe for member schools and districts.
  • Nice Net Free internet classroom program to facilitate communications between students and between students and educators.
  • Scholastic Teachers Lesson plans, teaching tools and strategies for grades K-12.
  • Teacher Timesavers Publishes teaching units, lesson plans, novel studies, and other educational materials in a variety of subject areas for the classroom.
  • This I Believe Direction on how to write essay’s for this NPR series.
  • United Streaming Video Educational videos and video clips. Free trail available. IU #20 & #21 subscribe for member schools and districts.

  • Writer's Digest The editors of Writer's Digest have prepared 52 Writing Prompts—idea joggers and brain starters—to get your writing going.
  • Writing Fix Sources for interactive writing prompts, writing across the curriculum and the 6 writing traits.

  • Noodle Tools Allows you to create MLA and APA bibliographies online. (Local systems, including Allentown SD subscribe to this service.)
  • Scholastic Write It Writing tools and the publication of student works.
  • Teen Ink A monthly print publication, web site and book series written for teens by teens.
  • Word Central Vocabulary-building resources such as a Student Dictionary and "Daily Buzzword" with eight interactive word games to help with spelling, reading, writing, and grammar.
