We are from coal dust still under our fingers.
We notice it as we wait in line for cheese dogs at Yocco’s.

We are from factories and farmlands from familias de otros lugares
Seeking new beginnings amidst resistance:
            German, Puerto Rican, Dominican, Syrian, Vietnamese, Russian
(and oh yeah, did you know New York and New Jersey are foreign countries, too?)

We are from Peeps, Crayola, Dorney Park, Mac Trucks
and kids who long for an old fashioned picnic.
