July 2 Fly from Allentown to Fairbanks, Alaska. Overnight at Hostel.
July 3 Take morning train to Denali National Park. Free time to sightsee, river raft, hike etc. Overnight for 2 nights at hotel near Park.
July 4 Full-day Kantishna Wilderness tour into Park. Happy 4th of July!
July 5 Train to Anchorage and overnight at Backpacker’s Hostel.
July 6 Morning flight to Sitka, Alaska. Visit Sitka National Historical Park, home to a Tlingit Indian village and fort. We will then visit the Sheldon Jackson Museum, which houses one of the word’s finest collections of Native artifacts. Also on the tour will be a visit to the Sitka Raptor Rehabilitation Center. Take overnight Alaska State Ferry to Petersburg, Alaska.
July 7 After checking into our hotel, we will tour the Three Lakes Recreation Area. Here we will hike through primary and secondary temperate rainforest. We will also visit the King Salmon Hatchery.
July 8 After breakfast, we will depart by boat for LeConte Glacier. It is the southern-most tidewater glacier in the U.S. and calves icebergs into LeConte Bay on a regular basis. Killer whales, seals, and porpoises are common sites in and around the Bay. Part of the afternoon will be spent touring a fish cannery and other sightseeing.
July 9 Following an early breakfast, we will depart by boat and float plane to Big Creek. Here we will set up base camp along Frederick Sound. Over the next two days we will have the opportunity to do the following: whale-watching in the Sound, sea-kayaking, fishing for salmon or halibut, hiking in the rainforest and along the beach etc.
July 10 Continue above activities at Big Creek.
July 11 Return to Petersburg by boat and floatplane. Overnight at hotel.
July 12 Depart Petersburg 8:00 am on Alaska State Ferry (Accommodations for overnight sleeping are in your sleeping bag in a public solarium; showers are available. Also, staterooms are available at an extra cost).
July 13 Travel through Inside Passage on Ferry, with short stops at Ketchikan and Wrangell. During our trip we will experience spectacular scenery that includes, glacial fjords, waterfalls, quaint fishing villages, pristine temperate rainforest, whales etc.
July 14 Continue above activities.
July 15 Arrive Bellingham, Washington. We will raft a 16-mile segment of the beautiful Sauk River. It is one of the premier rafting experiences in the Pacific Northwest. Overnight at motel.
July 16 Travel to Seattle for flight home to Allentown.
