Dr. Jacqueline McLaughlin is an Assistant Professor of Biology at The Pennsylvania State University, Lehigh Valley campus, where she instructs courses in biodiversity and evolution, human physiology, development, environmental science, and conservation biology.

She received a B.A. in Biology/Chemistry from New College of USF, a M.S. in Cell and Developmental Biology from The Florida State University, and a Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology from Rutgers University, The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

She also holds the position of Director of the CHANCE Program, a partnership between The Pennsylvania State University and The Pennsylvania Department of Education to enhance high school science education throughout the state of Pennsylvania, and the position of Editor of the CHANCE web-based “research modules.” Presently she serves as chair of the National Association of biology Teachers (NABT) four-year college/university section and on the Society of Developmental Biology’s (SDB) Professional Development and Curriculum Committee Review panel. Her research focuses on science education itself: (1) developing and assessing the effectiveness of web-based interactive “research modules” as pedagogical tools in the biology classroom; (2) the professional development of high school teachers who develop and/or use this technology; and (3) the value of experiential and inquiry-based pedagogy in teaching “short-term study abroad field courses.” Dr. McLaughlin has led numerous experiential field courses throughout Pennsylvania, Alaska, Australia, China, Ecuador, Galapagos Islands, Peru, Tanzania, and Costa Rica using her proven “Classrooms without Walls – Experiential Field Course Model.”

Dr. McLaughlin's Curriculum Vitae

Elizabeth McCain is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Muhlenberg College, where she teaches Developmental Biology, Histology, Scanning Electron Microscopy, and Transmission Electron Microscopy.

She received a B.A. in Biology/Marine Biology from New College of U.S.F., an M.S. in Marine Science from the University of South Carolina, and a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Texas at Austin. She also completed a postdoctorate at Duke University, in the field of invertebrate developmental biology.

Her research interests are developmental evolution, invertebrate developmental biology, chicken heart embryology, and almost any biological question (usually involving electron microscopy) that her students can dream up.
