The course is divided into three sessions: 1.Pre-Trip 2.Trip 3.Post-Trip

1. Pre-trip Session This session will consist of assignments using the course web site. These assignments will focus on background information on Tanzania , the savanna ecosystems, and the impacts on biodiversity.

2. Trip Session This session will consist of a two week visit to several of Tanzania ’s National Parks: Arusha-Lake Manyara National Park Manyara-Serengeti National Park Serengeti-Olduvai Gorge-Ngorongoro National Park Lerai volcanic crater Tarangire Masai Boma Several programs/ presentations will be given throughout the trip by either a PSU professor, naturalist field guide, park biologist, or student participant:

Several evening programs will be presented while on the trip. The following topics will be discussed: Mechanisms of evolution Biogeography Biodiversity and speciation Savanna ecology mportance of biodiversity and threats

3. Post-trip Session Submission of final reports and assignments will occur during this session (see Outline link for more information).
