Day 2 - May 16th

Bao Steel Factory - Visit includes: Hot Metal Workshop, Harbour of Bao steel, Blast Furnace, Electric Factory, and Water treatment.

Afternoon: Urban Planning Museum - See a scale model of Shanghai, its history and future plans. Walk on Nanjing Road - A pedestrian street famous for people watching and shopping.
Evening: Chinese Style Dinner. Return to the Metropole Hotel.

Evening: Shanghai Specialties Dinner - Experience dinner in a local restaurant with Shanghai style dishes introduced by your guide. Followed by a Huangpu river cruise. See the Bund, Yangpu Bridge, Waigaoqiao Industrial Park, Shipping Container Terminal, Hudong Shipyard, and Naval Facility. Return to the Metropole Hotel.

Day 4 - May 18th

Morning: Visit Jade Buddha Temple - Functioning Buddhist temple that is colorful and busy. Oriental Pearl TV Tower - A famous Shanghai landmark, get a 360° view of the city, the Bund and the river.

Afternoon: Train station drop-off. Take a train from Shanghai Hongqiao to Wuxi. Arrive in Wuxi around 4 - 5 pm.
Evening: Check-in to Changguangxi Hotel at Jiangnan University.

Morning:
Tour of Jiangnan University campus and Chinese Traditional Garments Museum. Orientation of the program (objectives, arrangements, and introduction of the professors and students from both Penn State and Jiangnan University.)

Afternoon: Tour of Wuxi City, Taihu Lake and Center of Algae Salvage in Yangwan Bay and Nanyang Hoggery for its methane production.
Evening: Welcome dinner by host institution and special presentations by Dr. Jacqueline McLaughlin on the CHANCE Program. Return to Changguangxi Hotel at Jiangnan University.

Afternoon: Visit to Wuxi Hi-tech Industrial Zone. Visit the Industrial Enterprises Sewage Treatment. Visit to Lucun City Sewage Treatment Facilities. Visit to Tire Factory.
Late afternoon: Group Reflection hosted by Drs. Abler and Liqing.
Evening: Interaction with Jiangnan University students. Return to Changguangxi Hotel at Jiangnan University.
Day 8 - May 22nd

Morning and Afternoon Field Trip: Tour of Suzhou City - Sightseeing to the Humble Administrator’s Garden. Visit the Suzhou Museum. Sightseeing to Tiger Hill and visit to a Silk Workshop.
Chinese style lunch in Suzhou City.
Evening: Free time or shopping trip to Wuxi City. Return to Changguangxi Hotel at Jiangnan University.

Morning: Arrive Beijing train station (pick-up by your Beijing guide and driver.) Visit Tiananmen Square - The largest public square in the world (Mao Mausoleum can be visited if open and line not too long.) Also, visit The Forbidden City - The former imperial palace which was the home to twenty-four Chinese emperors over 491 years between 1420 and 1911.
Make dumplings and eat a homemade lunch in a local Chinese home in the hutongs.
Afternoon: Take a Hutong Tour, a Cycle Rickshaw Ride, and go up Drum Tower. Visit Temple of Heaven - Visited by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good harvest.
Evening: Peking Duck Dinner. See a Chaoyang Acrobat Show - A Broadway style production with Kungfu masters. Drive to hotel: Soluxe Courtyard Hotel Beijing.

Day 15 - May 29th

Beijing & The Great Wall

Morning: 8 - 9 am - Pick-up in Beijing from Soluxe Courtyard Hotel. Visit Ming Tombs - Final resting place of 13 Emperors. We make two stops to give you a complete experience. Walk the Spirit Way and the descend into the underground Ding Tomb.
Chinese style lunch
Afternoon: Arrive in Jinshanling village at the base of the Great Wall in late afternoon. Go for a sunset view hike up on the great wall.
Dinner: Served in Jinshanling village at the base of the wall. A wide assortment of fresh Chinese dishes. Dinner also includes free flow of soft drinks, bottled water and tea.
Evening: After dinner your guide will take you back up to the watchtower on the Great Wall where you will spend the night. This is a 15 minute walk. We supply flashlights. If you have other bags we will lock them in the vehicle for the night. Take what you need for the walk on the wall in the morning as we do not come back down to Jinshanling before walking on the wall. No Hotel room needed.

Day 16 - May 30th

The Great Wall & Beijing
Activities
Morning: Wake up and enjoy breakfast on the Great Wall as the sun rises on your panoramic view. The morning light can produce amazing photographs. Breakfast is western, including German muesli, fruit, milk and other drinks. At this time of day there are usually no other tourists on the wall, you have it to yourself. After breakfast - embark on a 2 to 3 hour walk with fantastic scenery along restored and un-restored sections accompanied by your guide. The hike is medium difficulty with ups and downs and some loose rocks. We give you two bottles of water each to carry with you. If you prefer not to hike you may choose to ride the bus. Any bags left on the bus overnight will remain on the bus.

Chinese style lunch
Afternoon: Drive back to Beijing. We stop at the Olympic Swim Center (Water Cube) and the Stadium (Bird's Nest) so you can catch a glimpse of these architectural wonders and take photographs.
Drive back to hotel: Soluxe Courtyard Hotel Beijing.
Evening: Walk, shop, and dine at Houhai to Nanluoguxiang Area (meal not included) - The old part of Beijing, great people watching and strolling.
