Cost: $495/credit; students who are scheduled for 12 or more credits in the spring semester, could add BIOL 297E for no additional tuition cost.

Biology 297 (A); Summer, 2012; 1 credit
Cost: $2,600 (field practicum) plus tuition of $495 (in state) and $788 (out of state)


Penn State Graduate
(Courses must be scheduled sequentially and as a unit)

Biology 498 (B); Spring, 2012; 3 credits
Cost: $532 or $568/credit; students who are enrolled for 12 or more credits in the spring semester, could add BIOL 498B for no additional tuition cost.

Biology 497 (A); Summer, 2012; 1 credit
Cost: $2,600 (practicum) plus tuition of $716 (in state) and $958 (out of state)

Cost $3,000 (practicum; professional development activities; international workshop)*

*Tuition cost based on number of graduate credits desired (4 max @ $416/graduate credit; 3 credits for Biology 498 B and 1 credit for Biology 497 A); not mandatory

Scholarship Information

All PSU undergraduate students who are selected to participate in the Panama field study should apply immediately for the competitive Pennsylvania Commonwealth Education Abroad Scholarship AND Africa and Latin America Grant-in-Aid scholarship provided by the Penn State Office of International Programs. What is Included in the Trip (practicum) Cost

All instruction and guide services; all meals and lodging as stated in the itinerary; all ground, water and air transportation within Panama; all entrance fees to National Parks and other sites; cultural and historic activities; round-trip international airfare to Panama from Newark, New Jersey.

What is Not Included in the Trip (practicum) Cost

Passport fees; Penn State mandatory HTH Worldwide Study Abroad insurance (~ $2.00/day); gratuities to guides, drivers, or transfer personnel; transportation to and from Newark, New Jersey; laundry; telephone calls; or any other expenses of a personal nature.

 

 

Additional Cost Information

Penn State student participants must be enrolled as full-time students. The application process officially begins on December 1, 2011. Deadline for student registration is March 1, 2012. A $500 deposit is required upon acceptance into this course. Balance due by June 1, 2012. The $500 deposit is non-refundable after March 15, 2012. Space for each option is limited and will be assigned on an academic selection basis (GPA, essay, and letter of recommendation).
