ONLINE DATABASES

All databases listed are available to Penn Staters via any Internet connection. These resources offer access to articles in journals, newspapers, and other periodicals; photos and other images; sound files; primary sources; and reference works.

• Databases by Title A-Z provides a complete listing of the 400+ electronic resources subscribed to by University Libraries.
• Research guides, accessed via the University Library homepage offer a list of online resources by subjects, including Spanish Language and Literature.
• Look for the Get It! button and use ILLiad to order and retrieve articles not available in full text from our e-resources.

Multidisciplinary

• Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL) contains searchable full-text of specialized encyclopedias, almanacs, and other reference sources in many fields.
• HAPI (Hispanic American Periodicals Index) indexes articles, book reviews, documents, original literary works. To get the full articles, either search for the article title on the journal's website (link provided by HAPI), or search the journal title in The Cat. If available within a database, The Cat will link to the journal. If not, use ILLiad to order the article. It will usually be available online to you within 24-48 hours.
• JSTOR provides the full-text of journal articles related to the fields of Ecology, Economics, Cultures, Finance, Sociology, History, Mathematics, Political Science, and Population Studies.
• ProQuest (multiple databases) indexes 5,000+ magazines, journals, and newspapers on all topics.

Art & Music
Librarian's Choice: Oxford Art Online is a major art database including Grove Art Online (more than 45,000 articles covering all aspects of Western and non-Western visual art contributed by 6,700 scholars from 120 countries), The Oxford Companion to Western Art, Encyclopedia of Aesthetics, and The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms.

• ARTstor is a database of digital images of works of art and of artifacts of visual culture.
• Art Abstracts and Art Index Retrospective indexes articles in recent visual arts magazines from 1929 to the present.
• Music Index Online indexes articles in 670 international music journals and magazines.
• Music Audio includes audio tracks from Smithsonian Global Sound, Classical Music Library, Naxos Music Library, and Napster.
• International Index of the Performing Arts indexes articles on theatre, dance, film, opera, television, performance art, and the entertainment industry from from some 220 periodicals.

History

• Historical Abstracts indexes over 2,000 scholarly history journals, as well as dissertations and books on world history from 1450 to present, except for the U.S. and Canada which are covered in America: History and Life.
• Historic Documents Series collects more than 2,500 primary sources covering current events around the world from 1972 to present.
• History Cooperative has full text of history journals from the Organization of American Historians and other sources
• New York Times Historical (1851-2001) includes a digitized image of every backfile issue of The New York Times from cover to cover.

• Armed Conflict Database covers international and internal conflicts, as well as terrorism.
• CIAO (Columbia International Affairs Online) is a comprehensive source for research in international affairs.
• Constitutions of the Countries of the World
• CQ Global Researcher provides in-depth coverage of global affairs from a number of international viewpoints.
• CQ Electronic Library is a reference source for research in American government, politics, history, public policy, and current affairs. CQ Weekly, CQ Researcher, CQ Congress Collection, CQ Voting and Elections Collection, and CQ Historic Documents Online can be searched individually or concurrently.
• Empire Online, 1792-1969 documents the history of exploration, cultural contact, and colonialism.
• PolicyFile draws its content from public policy think tanks, university research programs, research organizations and publishers.
• Political Risk Yearbook has country reports on 105 countries.

• PsycINFO is the primary database for international literature in psychology and related disciplines, indexing 1800 journals from 50 countries as well as other types of publications.
• Sociological Abstracts is an index for English language journals in sociology, social work, and other social sciences.
• International Encyclopedia of the Social & Behavioral Sciences is the online version of the 24 volume encyclopedia.
• Ethnic News Watch is a comprehensive full text database of the newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press.
• Criminal Justice Abstracts provides abstracts of articles from the major journals in criminology and related discipline.
• World Development Indicators includes nearly 800 statistical indicators related to social and economic development.
